Live life on your terms

When I was twelve years old and I was living in New York, I would take the train from Mamaroneck to New York City everyday to audition for roles in TV and movies.  I was a working actor at that age and needed to get from the suburbs to the city.

Everyday, I would look around that train, and I can still smell the grease and the heat of the people all jammed in together.  I would see men dressed in those old trench coats, looking absolutely miserable…tired.  Beaten down by a daily commute that seemed to take the life right out of them.  It was then at age twelve that I knew I wouldn’t live my life like that.  I’d live life on my own terms.

I couldn’t fully articulate how my life would be different, but, I knew I didn’t want to wear suits and ties everyday.  The guys in those clothes just looked so uncomfortable.

So, many years later, I was getting ready to graduate from University of Maryland.  I had excelled as a student, but, I had no real clear direction on my career.  I remember my mom asking a question that would change my life.  She just said, “Just look out ten years from now.  What is it that you’re doing?”  I imagined I was on a sailboat, which I weird because I have no clue where that came from.  I had never been on a sailboat.  But it reminded me that I needed to find a career that would allow me to live my life on my own terms.

So, now for 25 years, that’s exactly what I’ve done and in the process I’ve been helping others do the same.  I am here to help you live life on your own terms.  To be free from the preconceived notions of what others think your life or your retirement should look like..
